Cops Don't Belong In Labor
Cops stand with bosses, not workers. They inflict violence on workers and make it harder for us to build labor power. Defunding MPD will help labor unions build multi-racial working class solidarity and achieve our other goals too.
Protect striking workers
When real unions take to the streets, police crack down on picketers. Defunding MPD will prevent them from busting unions and breaking strikes.
Protect our union family
Victims of police violence include union members, like Philando Castile, a 14-year member of Teamsters Local 320, who was killed by police in 2016. Defunding MPD will help us protect our union family, including Black union leaders and members, from police violence.
Advance our policy priorities
Cop unions have a track record of selling out real unions, including endorsing anti-union politicians. Defunding MPD will help ensure they don’t sabotage our priorities.
Fund DC workers
Defunding MPD would free up over half a billion dollars for programs that help DC workers.
Replace police jobs with good union jobs
DC needs more mental health specialists, infrastructure workers, librarians, and other good union jobs that nurture communities instead of harming them.
